Aung San Suu Kyi was the 1991 Nobel Peace Prize winner. She has been worldly renowned for her work in Burma, opposing to military rule.

Born on 19 June 1945 in the city of Rangoon, Aung San Suu Kyi was the third child of Aung San, commander of the Burma Independence Army. Growing up, Aung San Suu Kyi had an excellent education, she studied at several universities and colleges.

In 1988, Aung San Suu Kyi’s journey for peace in Burma started when she was informed of her mother’s stroke. While visiting Burma, Suu Kyi witnessed the destruction of her country under military rule. This led her to begin her peaceful protest for democracy and human rights in Burma.

On July 20 1989 , Aung San Suu Kyi was placed under house arrest
