Aplastic anemia is a disease that originates from the bone marrow. Thousands of people worldwide are diagnosed with this disease each year. What is Aplastic anemia? To answer this, we must first establish a commonality in language: namely, what causes this disease? Aplastic anemia is a life threatening condition that causes a deficiency of all types of blood cells in the body by a failure of the bone marrow development. The symptoms of this disorder is very similar to a type of cancer known as leukemia. The condition is diagnosed by several tests that include blood tests which shows the levels of the white blood cells, red blood cells and the platelet count, and finally a bone marrow biopsy is done to confirm the diagnosis. This condition was once considered incurable, but now with the proper treatment, it is curable and many live a normal healthy life afterwards
The condition aplastic anemia has similar symptoms to the type of cancer leukemia. Symptoms include easily bruising, fatigue, and weakness. Although these symptoms are much more similar to the condition leukemia, aplastic anemia is not a type of cancer, it’s a condition in the bone marrow that lowers the number of white blood cells, platelets and red blood cells produced.
