Annie Oakley. Originally born under the name Phoebe Ann Moses in Darke County, Ohio on August 13, 1860. Growing up, Annie’s parents weren’t the richest, in fact they were so poor that after her father died of pneumonia, her mother sent her off to the Darke County Infirmary when she was only nine years old. Years later, she returned home to help support her family, her second stepfather taught her how to shoot a gun so she eventually started hunting game to give to a local grocery store.
