All the Bright Places Essay All the Bright Places, a novel by Jennifer Niven, is a great book, one that shows you that you never really know what is underneath someone’s surface. This book is humorous, heartfelt, and relatable for a lot of today’s youth. This is a tragic book that deals with psychological issues and the problems and side effects that accompany them. This book will teach you to pay attention to when people are showing symptoms of a mental illness, and how to safely and properly overcome the death of loved ones. All the Bright Places is written about the characters Theodore Finch (known as “Finch”) and Violet Markey. They meet each other standing on the edge of their school’s highest point (the clock tower) where they both are contemplating suicide. She struggles, dealing with the pain of losing the two people closest to her. She, however, decides to visit the “bright places” that she and Finch didn’t get to visit. This helps Violet to realize that things get better, and that losing people does not mean you should lose yourself. She learns to deal with heartbreak and hardships. This book sends a strong message that with help and a positive outlook, you can get through some of the darkest times. I think that young adults, or anyone, should read All the Bright Places because in the end, it makes you feel empowered. Though it is a tough book to read and people may have trouble with some of the graphic descriptions, I think this books portrays a good example of what people go through with mental diseases and what people go through with moving on from difficult times.
