Alberto Giacometti was born in Eastern Switzerland in 1901 on October 10th. Alberto grew up in the city of Stampa. Alberto was both a sculptor and a painter and was best known for his attenuated sculptures of solitary figures in a spacious venue. He was first a Surrealist artist and then became famous for his Existentialist approach to art. Alberto grew up in a family of artists. A big influence on his start into art-making was his father Giovanni Giacometti. Giovanni Giacometti was a Post-Impressionist artist and his godfather, Cuno Amiet, was a Fauvist painter. His brothers also showed a keen interest in art. Diego Giacometti became a very well-known furniture designer as well as serves as an aide and a frequently used model for Alberto.
