Virgil Abloh was the mastermind for one of the most wanted Air Jordan releases for the year 2017, the Off-White Air Jordan I, collaborating with his Italian based brand. The Off- White Air Jordan I gives the illusion of an unfinished product due to it deconstructed design. The shoe uses color blocking which means only certain colors are in certain areas; the shoe does not have one distinct color. The colors that are most noticeable are red, white, and black with features of small blue and orange stitching. The red serves as the surrounding edges of the toe box, the overlay for the ankle area, the heel block, and the color of the bottom of the shoe. He is “credited with creating the Air Jordan concept at Nike.” He only created the Air Jordan I out of the 32 player models made for Michael Jordan. He came up with the concept of the ball with the wing when he was on a flight back from Portland saying in an interview with Complex, “On the flight home I noticed a youngster wearing a replica pair of pilot’s wings given to him by the airlines...The design seemed to fit the idea of a guy who could fly.” During his time with Nike, he served as the Creative Director for the company. He moved his career to Adidas establishing Adidas America in 1992. He served as the Chief Executive Officer of Adidas AG and as Worldwide Creative Director of Adidas AG. He became Co- Founder of Sports, Inc. and Co-Founder and Global Creative Director at Adidas America Inc.
