There were a wide range of shops in Rome that sold all sorts of things, however a complex of buildings was built in 107-110 CE during the rule of Trajan. A fine case of beautiful architecture in Imperial Rome,is the complex housed an entire market inside its premises, alongside small shops in the front and a residential apartment block. At the pinnacle of its fame, Trajan's market had more than 150 shops in the complex.
