Many people want to understand the reasoning behind such actions and behaviors, to do this, research must be done. There are many approaches to a problem of this kind, but a simple survey could be used to begin the research. The questions that need to …show more content…
Are you aware of current local laws about texting while driving?
14. Why do you text while driving?
Each survey would be distributed around through email, and through several different classes giving a random selection of traditional, nontraditional students, and professors. The data would be completely anonymous, and would be conducted throughout an entire week until at least 200 are collected. 200 surveys would be a sufficient amount to gather enough data to see what percentage of the college population of men and women ages 18-24 text and drive. This would then be related to the entire population that took the survey.
The hypothesized results would include that everyone texts at least hourly every day. The amount of travel time on average would be an hour a day. Around 67 percent of the sample of interest texts and drives, whereas the entire population sampled is around 54 percent. The majority of this population would be women. The most frequent times of texting would be at night, and they would text at least twice a day while …show more content…
They would feel guilty and would feel that it has an effect on their driving, just not enough to cause harm. 95 percent of the sample would know that there are laws against texting while driving, but only 13 percent would have known someone or been in a traffic violation or accident due to texting and driving. Each of these results compared to the sample at large would be higher due to the generational difference.
Overall this survey would conclude that the sample of interest, 18 to 24-year-old traditional college students, text and drive more than both the combined traditional and nontraditional students and professors alike. While most do not know a specific reasoning for ignoring the law, they still feel guilty for doing so. The survey gives a small perspective on some of the risky behaviors of college
