Qualitative Content Analysis Paper

This research adapts a qualitative content analysis methodology. Similar to past studies on Chinese perceptions of the United States, this study will adopt related methods. Content analysis is a systematic approach in which data is able to be reproduced through similar techniques to prove validity.1 Marying defines a qualitative content analysis as “an approach of empirical, methodological controlled analysis of texts within their context of communication, following content analytic rules and step by step models, without rash quantification.”2 Patton addresses the approach as “any qualitative data reduction and sense-making effort that takes a volume of qualitative material and attempts to identify core consistencies and meanings.”3 More recently, Hsieh and Shannon have expanded on the importance of a qualitative content analysis as “a research method for the subjective interpretation of the content of text data through the systematic classification process of coding and identifying themes or patterns.” By making inferences objectively and systematically, a specified message can be identified.4 Through sorting texts into categories, content analysis is an efficient way to analyze larger sets of data.5 …show more content…
The goal of deductive analysis is to validate or further develop an already conceptualized theory.12 With previous studies already discovering initial themes or variables, directed contend seeks to expand on those studies by focusing on different relationships or variables.
