Dear Institute for Learning & Brain Sciences,
I am writing this letter to apply for the Research Assistant Intern position in Summer 2016. I learned about the internship opening from the Institute for Learning & Brain Sciences website. I am interested in this position because I am inspired and motivated by the exploratory advancement of linguistic, cognitive, and social development made by the I-LABS. I am also eager to learn how the interconnectivity of various cognitive aspects and mechanisms plays a role in human development. This letter is a formal appeal to you for assistance with the tuition fees for continuing my education. I had to suspend my education at HBU (Houston Baptist University) because of the increment in tuition fee; I came from a family with no savings, my mother was a single mother (61 years old going to 62) who raised me in a low-income apartment life, no education nor funds for her ending years. HBU (Houston Baptist University) recently funded a football team in which they did well for their first year, and I believe this is the more reason the tuition fee was increased; I am not an athlete, but it is my wish that my dream of going to school come true. I am currently working but having my dream job will set my life in order forever for I am about entering into a new chapter of my life.…

This letter is to express my interest in the position as a Residential Assistant for The New School. I also sent my resume showing my experience, competence and reliability as a team member. This position caught my eye as soon as I stepped foot on campus, my parents and I were introduced to Ms. Marsha Dawson at a mixer and through her I gained an awareness of the possibilities of becoming an RA. I then did my own research and came away with the sense of pride that if given the opportunity, I would embrace the resident assistant (RA) position is truly a special one. Indeed, the job of an RA is to care about the residents, and few people in this world can claim that they are entrusted to and compensated to care about others.…

Analyzing “Brainology” In the following essay, we will analyze and discuss the article “Brainology” by Carol Dweck. Starting off by the title, the opening paragraphs, the claim, the author’s purpose, methods, persona and closing paragraphs as well. Because I believe Dweck’s article was more effective than ineffective, reasons of why I believe she could've done a better work will be discussed and explained in short. The title the author chooses for this article, “ Brainology”, introduces the audience to what she will be talking about, it is important to point out that the word “brainology’ induces us to think of a very broad topic which could be understood as a study of the brain.…

Neuroscience truly represents a fascinating area of study for me with a limitless upside in our understanding of the brain. I desire to understand the brain from a cellular and genetic level, to neurologic systems, to higher level human cognition and behavior, and ultimately real-world clinical applications in medicine and psychiatry such as understanding brain disorders and therapies. The faculty’s accessibility at Penn has impressed me, as Dr. Julie McGurk welcomed me to attend her BBB109 “Introduction to Brain and Behavior” class, which should prove to be an ideal introductory course to provide an overview and foster a more specific direction of research to pursue in Neuroscience. In her correspondence with me, she encouraged me to pursue research and directed me to Penn’s Center for Undergraduate Research and Fellowships to seek opportunities, support, and resources.…

I do not believe in the impossibility since I trust that the brain could make impossible things possible. When I was 14, I surpassed the impossibility. At that time, I took a challenge to attend the Astronomy Olympiad competition while knowing nothing about space and universe. Although I was almost dropped out in the first round, after a month that I had filled out my schedule entirely with study, discussion, and practices, I found myself understanding new concepts faster and solving problems more accurate. More astonishingly, my effort paid off as I became a national representative to participate in the international Olympiads.…
