For our group project, Dr. Shaffer assigned us a topic to research and present about fatherhood. After being assigned a topic for our group, we decided that it would be a great idea to discuss about present-fathers and non-present fathers. To elaborate, we wanted to know about the effects of having a father present in a family household versus a father who is not. I was glad that our group agreed on the subtopic because I can truly related from my experience without having a father. In our group, we had different roles for our presentation and I was chosen to provide media examples that is related under our topic. Therefore, due to my role, I have two videos that was very informative about present fathers and absent fathers.

In the short-documentary, three adolescence discussed about their life without their fathers. For example, Javon’ father left him, his mother, and his newborn sister due to the pressure of being a responsible father, Sunny’s father got arrested due to his addiction to crystal meth which caused her to be placed in a foster home for four years and Kenzie’s father was arrested for armed robbery. These teenagers shared how living with an absent father affects their life. For example, Javon had to take his father’s role by providing for his family and help raise his little sister to help his mother out. As for Sunny, she continuous been going to back to the foster home due to abuse and death of her grandmother. This video was very emotional to watch because no child should ever experience something like this. A father should not be afraid of the pressures of being father and it does not matter if you have money or not. Therefore, this video was helpful to show the teenager’s experience and opinion on what it is like to have no father present in his/her
