required chapel. It is a time for students to have a break from their busy day to worship. It is
once a week for one hour and you must complete four semesters to be able to graduate. You
have three skips a semester. The service is usually the same thing every week. A local preacher
or youth minister will have roughly a thirty-minute devotional. On topics ranging from praying
to spreading his word. Then a praise band will fill the rest of the hour with the usual

Having all of the students who need chapel credit go at the same
time is very annoying. If there were two times to go, it would free up student’s schedules and
minimize the crowd. It would effectively cut the crowd in half making it easier for students and
more enjoyable. Biola University is a good example. They also have required chapel, a Christian
university, and have 6,300 students. They require 20 developmental chapels and 5 conference
sessions per semester. They have 9-10 chapel opportunities each week for credit. ‘’Each chapel
differs in style and content to best meet the spiritual developmental needs of undergraduate
students.’’ The different types of chapels give the student the opportunity to choose which
approved meeting they would like to attend. Types of chapel range from a normal worship
service to a small Bible study. Another thing about their system is that if you do not get the
required amount of chapels, you are charged a $375 fee automatically charged to the student's
account. Money is a great motivator to keep students accountable.
