Some of the religious elements and characters portrayed in the movie are things such as the rosary that was given to Michela by her mother, the crucifix, Michela’s family, and both the old and the young priest. These religious elements push Michela to lean towards a Religious Worldview rather than a scientific one. However, on the opposing side of that there are just as many scientific elements and characters that are portrayed in the movie. Hanna and Stefan are both huge influences in Michela’s life at school and push her towards a more modern perspective on life. The portrayal of a Religious Worldview does not outweigh the portrayal of a Scientific Worldview nor the other way around. I think that the movie was split right down the middle between the two of them. For example, during the movie when Hanna demanded that she went to the doctors or she would tell her family about her seizures, Michela went to the priest first and then directly following that she went to the doctors. The people in Michela’s life split a line down the middle of her mind, one side pulling her towards a Religious answer and the other pointing towards Scientific. This split between the two effected Michela drastically throughout the entire movie. On one hand she hand her mother and the younger priest pulling her towards a Religious Worldview, claiming that medicine will not help, that only God could help her. On the other hand she had Hanna, the older priest and her Father pulling her towards a scientific view by trying to get her to see a doctor in order to get help. I think that they bother offer equal benefits because neither worldview could be proven to work, when chosen Michela needed to have faith that one or the other would work. I think that Michela choose to lean towards a Religious Worldview and let things play out the way that they did because of her relationship with her mother. Throughout the entire movie she desperately sought out approval from her Mother. Unfortunately the only way for her to earn approve was to take a Religious Worldview on her situation, which eventually costed her
