The DNC included decriminalization of possession of cannabis, legalizing the research of medicinal benefits, and assuring to back up states that permit recreational use (Medical Marijuana Inc.). Typically, the position of the democratic party seems to be more toward the decision of the states in social issues rather than overpowering federal law. They are in favor of using popular vote in states and allowing them to move forward on their policies from there. This has helped me out a lot, dealing with migraines that I get from years of contact sports. Although marijuana is not proven to be a cure for anything, many people (including myself) use it every day in order to make them feel better, which to me sounds like enough. Some argue that obtaining a medical marijuana card is just an excuse to get high, but I would argue that some individuals have made a negative image for the community of medical cannabis patients. There are some people who take advantage of the marijuana policy here in Colorado but because there are options for recreational and medical purchases, I think people tend to be pretty honest about their reasons for consuming cannabis. Even though I have an honest reason and a physician’s recommendation for my medical card, it still makes me uneasy to possess marijuana due to judgment from peers and law enforcement In this project I learned a lot more about the political regulation of marijuana and how the government deals with it. I was surprised to learn that the states have so much ability to make their own decisions, different from the federal government. I would have liked to learn a little bit more about how the revenue from the marijuana industry can be used if there are federal regulations against the industry itself. I also would
