The 16th amendment was a transformational event in the history of the United States Constitution by which an unregulated direct federal tax on all of the money a person makes in one year was authorized. The amendment reversed the preceding Constitutional tax structure prohibiting such taxes under which the American people had grown to be the freest and most optimistic people in the history of the world who were all in favor of a much different structure under which the scandal ridden and deeply distrusted big wigs of Washington, D.C. were granted the express written consent to reach directly into every wallet, be it that of a Wall Street tycoon or that of the average blue collar, hard working man. At that time it seemed like a great way to get back at the people who were ripping off the nation by killing all other competition and basically taking over, but would soon realize that their plan to…

If passed, Proposition 63 would conduct precise background checks on those who purchase ammunition as well as outlaw large-capacity magazines and in order to purchase ammunition and a firearm, a permit is required. The California Democratic Party is supporting proposition 63 heavily. Their main arguments are that the proposition would keep guns and ammunition out of the wrong hands by closing loopholes in existing laws. It would also protect the rights of law-abiding citizens to own guns for self-defense, hunting, and recreation, as well as address and improve on the issue of illegally armed felons.…

When the Conservatives introduced this bill they wanted to get it passed as soon as possible, so when they put it through The House of Commons, many people could not fully read through the bill and have a proper understanding of what it’s actually proposing. The bill has nine separate measures. The measures include replacing the pardon system with ‘record suspensions’, mandatory minimum sentences for certain sexual offences, and mandatory minimum sentences for certain drug offences, making it illegal to give sexually explicit information available to a kid, increasing…

From their conception and drafting in 1776, the Articles of Confederation were nothing but a reaction to the English government. When possible, the colonists continually strived to do the exact opposite of what the English government would. This effort to avoid tyranny resulted in a decentralized, weak, inefficient, and financially poor government, one that was also nigh impossible to change and amend. Not only did this later spur reform, but it also gave impetus to “those who favored a strong central government” (persons such as Alexander Hamilton).…

Rebuttal 1 - My opponent argues that Proposition 227 improved standardized test scores when it passed. Even if it was, which many studies disagree over, it is not beneficial anymore. It is outdated. Proposition 227 was passed 18 years ago – before the iPhone existed, before we had our first Black president, before we created laws against smoking. Our world has changed in ways that would have been unfathomable in 1998.…

Inside Injustice Every political figure faces the struggle of law violation and hence, criminal regulation. In the ongoing election of 2016, contenders debate the subject of criminal reform that assists non-violent offenders of the law. Two out of five primary presidential candidates voice their view on criminal reform support the REDEEM and Justice Safety Valve Acts. These acts remove records of non-violent offences on the federal level of juveniles under 15 and allow judges to regulate the minimum mandatory sentence of non-violent offenders to their best interest. Anti-reformists contend that laws exist to maintain order in society, with punishment being the main—if not only – factor that preserves the effectivity of the legal system.…
