Much like my experience at the Foundation Communities Health Fair, I volunteered to register folks to vote while also discussing the need to protect reproductive services for women in Texas. Volunteering at the Legislate THIS: Election Edition! burlesque show was quite interesting because I had never been to one and it was a chance to engage with people about the importance of being involved in women’s health issues. In an effort to bring more awareness and support to this event, I advertised the event among my friends and on my social media. I stated the importance of women’s reproductive rights and explained that all the proceeds of Legislate THIS: Election Edition! event went to fund reproductive services in Greater Texas. On the day of the event I arrived at Spider House Ballroom around 6:00pm to get the table and all of the materials in place. There were two other volunteers, Rachel and Sofia, who

Many of the dancers dressed up as Hillary Clinton or Donald Trump in a number of the event’s artistic acts with the theme of the production focusing on women’s rights. Once the show started the other two volunteers and I promoted our cause by providing statistics and other reproductive health facts in Texas in the form of a game. The MC would ask the audience members’ questions like “How many women seek out Planned Parenthood services over their lifetime?” or “What Texas bill caused the closing of over 82 clinics in the stats?” Volunteering at Legislate This was a fun and unconventional way for me to advocate and garner community support for women’s reproductive rights. Many of the participants donated to our cause and signed up to become more involved in Planned Parenthood’s community organizing efforts. Additionally, I was able to handout some information and collect some emails from those wanting to join our
