Reproductive Decisions

Many people question the thought of allowing adolescents to make autonomous decisions, which means allowing kids the age of 12 and 18 to make medical chocies on their own. There are many positive and negative sides to the answer as to whether or not adolescents should have that right. Personally I agree to the thought of allowing them to make these decisions because some adolescents have the judgement skills needed to make health related chocies. During this age most are transitioning from a child to an adult, and their thinking skills become more mature. Most are able to make the right decisions regarding their health. Dr. Vic Larcher says “evidence suggests that 14-15 year olds have similar capacities to adults(Weithorn and Campbell,

There are three critical views regarding the virginal conception, the most frequent argument comprises of parallels brought forth from Greek mythology. “According to this view, the accounts in Matthew and Luke arose among Greek Christians who were acquainted with the many myths in paganism that spoke of the virgin births of various Greek gods and superheroes” (Stein 1996, 65). Subsequently it is said that Christians created a similar story to explain their Messiah. Two of the their strongest arguments derive from the stories of Perseus and Hercules. Mythology states that Zeus had some form of sexual relations with two different human women Danae and Alcmene.…

This is why I believe that the age to make your own legal medical decision should be before one turns 18 so that In the case there are no parents or guardians present a child can make their own decision. This hypothetical situation could become real very fast in the case of a plane/ car crash, a murder or any number of different things that could happen to a person’s parents. This could even happen if one does not reside with their parents due to arguments etc. In these situations these people will most likely still need medical treatment if something is not right.…

Is IVF ever morally justified? According to Peter Singer, he does acknowledge the objections against IVR, but he believes that these objections are not strong enough to override the reason why IVR can overcome infertility. IVF is a way of using an egg taken from the wife and the sperm taken from the husband, the embryo is created which is then inserted into the wife. This, however, plays many ethical roles, and there are many objections that come with it. One opposition is that IVR is unnatural.…

Personally, I do highly believe that Adolescents have the right to make autonomous medical choices but this is a highly argumentative subject. I feel as if my parents shouldn’t have to confirm everything about me, for I am my own person by 15 even though they still look at me as their “baby-girl”. Lets face it by 15 i’m not so much of a baby anymore, i’m not completely grown yet but i’m far enough away from the baby stage and am perfectly capable to make my own decisions by now. Parents have the right to make choices for us as children but I don’t feel it’s necessary by the time we hit the “Adolescent” stage in life because by then we have the right mind and knowledge about things to make our own decisions.…

At this point I would like raise some objections that have been inspired by the article “Why Is Obama Afraid to Embrace Reproductive Rights?” written by Erin Matson. In her article, Matson provides that in 2016 when the White House hosted the United States Women Summit to celebrate the progress made on women and girls and talking about what is to come, they did not include abortion on the agenda. Matson provides the reader with countless issues regarding reproductive rights in the United States that are not being addressed and then states, “Abortion is an inextricable part of the struggle for women’s equality, and as I’ve covered for Rewire previously, you simply can’t do feminism—a commitment to the social and political equality of all people,…

Middle-aged white men are the apex of American society. They have the majority of the privilege in this country and are extremely entitled. As a result, they are responsible for most decisions in America because white men are extremely relatable and they understand the perspectives of all Americans. I wanted to do this essay on all drugs and the different effects they have on reproduction but it ended up being a very broad topic. I am in no way shape or form involved with marijuana nor do I support it for recreational use. Many states are beginning to legalize marijuana for recreational use and more states are starting to push laws for marijuana to be legal in their state. With all these changes in laws these days as males and females we need to understand if what we do as “kids” or “teenagers” catch up to us in the future or even when we are ready to have a family will marijuana have an affect on us later on.
