Reporting from Inside the CIAA According to the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Charlotte Regional Visitors Authority, Tom Murray broadcasts, “It’s been months in the making, but we’re so pleased to welcome the CIAA headquarters in the Charlotte region.” ("CIAA Tournament Economic" par. 8) As of late July 2015, the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) conference offices are now located in Uptown Charlotte, North Carolina. The CIAA is one of America’s oldest athletic conferences; producing championships annually in the following sports: Men’s and Women’s Cross Country; Volleyball; Football; Men’s and Women’s Indoor and Outdoor Track; Men’s and Women’s Basketball; Women’s Bowling; Men’s and Women’s Tennis; Golf; Baseball; and Softball. The CIAA basketball tournament, and everything associated with it, is a massive economic shot of adrenaline for Charlotte travel and tourism industry, as people travel in from far and wide (Sharrock par. 4). With sincere hopes that the CIAA creates and leaves a lasting impact on the city, CIAA Commissioner Jacqui McWilliams asserts that the organization has come together nicely in terms of collaboration and management of this event (Russell par. 18). The CIAA represents more than a basketball tournament held at the end of February each year, learning about the true principle of this establishment enables opportunities and alternatives for prospective college students, especially those who live in Charlotte.…
