Repeat Offenders

Be honest, not every child is full of sunshine and rainbows. Despite their “innocence”, there’ll be days where they’re up to no good. Whether their actions are intentional or not, what is a parent to do to instill good mannerisms and behavior? With spankings being taboo and parents finding legal repercussions, what choice would a parent have? Should you risk being punished for punishing or hope that your child doesn’t do any bad? Most people will argue that without the ability to correct behavior, they risk repetitive behavior. “Repeat Offenders” is a term used by the legal system when a crime has been done. Three strikes and they’re done for. Logically, one would ask, why have a second or third occurrence at all? How effective is a time out once someone knows that’s all they’ll get? The parent has two options, correct their child then and there or give the child their request. As a result, this parent could consequently instill to the child the behavior could be rewarded with what they want despite their parent’s attempt to assert their authority or stay firm to their decision and discipline the child to not act in that manner in the future. However, with the demands and many critics of parents, they could be met with disapproval or praise as well. A concern of the action of spanking a child is the risk of long term effects such as depression, aggression and/or lack or too much empathy. Just as the risks of punishment pose, being passive has its own risks as well.
