Creating a better and more positive place can have an astonishing affect on people in the most minor ways. Even the smallest things can make a breathtaking impact on people. Just making one person smile is a step towards a better life for society. If every single person was more accepting to one another drastic changes could be made. Asking another person if they would like to hang out, or even a small smile could make someone’s world. It is extremely common to ostracize other because of fear of the unknown, and conforming to what is believed to be the “norm”. Katherine Newman, a sociologist from Princeton studied a variety of school shooters and described them as, “dweebish intellectuals” and “outcast”. The rejection that people face is what can drive them to commit these horrific actions. Every single person that has the drive to harm others have shown different behavior, but because society is so indifferent about other people's pain it becomes too late to stop them. Little actions such as smiling at someone who looks down, welcoming someone feeling uneasy about a new environment, noticing little things, and even telling someone how much they are appreciated can restrict certain tragedies. The idea of how just a couple words or small actions can completely turn another person’s world upside down is almost mind boggling. However, people only realize this when they get hurt or humiliated, but they are inflicting this pain onto others they decide not to care. The same effect takes place with positivity. People do not realize how amazing they can make another person feel until someone else passes in this happiness to them. The effect that others can have on each other is either extremely beautiful or awfully horrid. It all comes down to realization, and whether people choose to believe in this circle of feelings that is passed on throughout the entire world. Richelle E. Goodrich, an Eastern Washington University Alumni claims, “You are here to make a difference, to either improve the world or worsen it. And whether or not you consciously choose to, you will accomplish one or the other.”. The world consists of a ripple effect of emotions and attitudes.
