On the other hand, most find this process extremely difficult; thinking of new ideas, words and sentences in sequence is challenging. Forming thoughts and putting them into paragraph form takes time, and not only time, but also countless attempts. Anne Lamott explains this problem in her essay, “Shitty First Drafts,” in which she argues that every writer, even…

One of my biggest problems is procrastination. As I stated in my first paper, I start my writing process “with procrastination, something I do often that uses most of my time…I just can’t get myself to focus on writing that well” (“Is There a Right Way?”). It delays me from getting into my writing, which could probably be a lot better than it is right now if I could get myself to concentrate. Procrastination also doesn’t give me enough time to really think about the assignment, what it’s asking of me, what I think about it, and what I could talk about. Another change necessary to improve my writing, is that I need to better consider all the ideas in my first drafts so that I can try to expand and connect them, and to find the best ideas for what I’m trying to say.…

My major weakness is that I am a poor editor. I am very redundant and wordy, which was why I turned a simple introduction into two drawn-out paragraphs. Throughout the entire paper, I act as though the reader has forgotten everything in the last paragraph, so I summarize make sure to define glasnost and perestroika over and over again. When it comes to writing essays, I always end up with writing too much, but saying too little and sometimes not getting the point…

Accelerated English 4 has been a class that has been one of my best English classes. The class taught me many new techniques along with improving my skills that I already knew, though not all were improved. My strength in vocabulary was still as high as it was while my ability to transition had improved quite well, though my ability to create a well styled paper was still suffering. When Accelerated English 4 started there was no excitement about the papers I would have to write.…

I am also good at being organized so when I, for example, lay out an argument in an introduction, I will stick to it until the end. As for weaknesses, the main ones are that I almost never read over a paper after writing it and, unless I have to, I never write multiple drafts. This is mostly due to time constraints and my final product often suffers for it. I have gotten better on this front, though, so it definitely isn’t as big a problem as it used to be. Another problem I have is that I struggle trying to come up with how to begin a paper, with the exception of a paper in high school about why the North won the Civil War where I began with “Contrary to what many southerners might believe, the South shall NOT rise again.”…

My mind feels like a 1000 piece puzzle missing a piece. I can’t simply find the right words to say to start this paper. It is always like this when freewriting; the idea of freewriting in and of itself frightens me. Never able to put the words in my head onto paper in a way that it can be read eloquently by others. My hands start to cramp automatically at the idea of freewriting.…

The image that best describes my writing style would be the pyramid. To me a pyramid is a structure that represents order and an attention to detail. The picture of the pyramid is structured in levels, which can be viewed as steps to writing an essay or research paper. The top of the pyramid could be viewed as selecting the topic for what I am writing. The second level is the research phase and the writing of the outline.…

In order to become a stronger writer one must recognize his errors. In my previous essays I have not done a good job of expressing my subtopics. I have made the mistake of hiding my subtopics, making them unclear. In order to fix this problem I could create a web or some sort of visual that will allow me to organize my thoughts. Having a specific sentence in the beginning of each paragraph will also orientate the reader on what to look for in that specific paragraph.…

On the other hand, I also have a couple weaknesses. I find it hard to start writing about topics that I know nothing about. I just sit and stare at the empty page or computer screen feeling so unaccomplished. Another weakness I have is that I sometimes can’t get my message out clear enough so when someone tries to read my work they might get confused in certain parts. My own experiences led me to believing my strengths and weaknesses as a writer.…

I have never been the student that gets all A’s in my English classes. My writings have multiple mechanical errors, and my sentences don’t always make sense. Reflection On Ap Classes

Thank you for this opportunity to help me grow as a student and learn how to construct better papers. Starting off I’d like to say that I did take advanced placement (AP) language and composition in high school and received a B in the class, which with the grading curve associated with AP classes is weighted as an A. I learned in that class how to write better in a sense that I can form sentences that sound proper and more professional but not in a way that allowed me to get into all of the little intricacies that writing involves. I have noticed when writing, I tend to overthink my writing and what I want to say as well as when I write I have so many thoughts going through my head as to what I would like to say that sometimes I don’t know how to organize them or…

Over the course of this semester I learned a handful of things about myself as a writer, that will help me develop as a more proficient writer over the course of my four years here. As a writer one of my strengths is backing up my argument with solid and concrete evidence that truly makes the reader believe what they are reading. Another area of my writing that I excel in is being able to process great ideas that follow the guidelines and the prompt. With that being said I have also seen that while the ideas may come with ease, I do have a challenging time with getting the ideas from my head onto paper in a manner that isn’t so disorganized that it makes the reader second guess themselves. Another shaky part of my writing comes much before the actual forming of sentences.…
