One of my biggest problems is procrastination. As I stated in my first paper, I start my writing process “with procrastination, something I do often that uses most of my time…I just can’t get myself to focus on writing that well” (“Is There a Right Way?”). It delays me from getting into my writing, which could probably be a lot better than it is right now if I could get myself to concentrate. Procrastination also doesn’t give me enough time to really think about the assignment, what it’s asking of me, what I think about it, and what I could talk about. My major weakness is that I am a poor editor. I am very redundant and wordy, which was why I turned a simple introduction into two drawn-out paragraphs. Accelerated English 4 has been a class that has been one of my best English classes. The class taught me many new techniques along with improving my skills that I already knew, though not all were improved. I am also good at being organized so when I, for example, lay out an argument in an introduction, I will stick to it until the end. As for weaknesses, the main ones are that I almost never read over a paper after writing it and, unless I have to, I never write multiple drafts. This is mostly due to time constraints and my final product often suffers for it. I have gotten better on this front, though, so it definitely isn’t as big a problem as it used to be. The image that best describes my writing style would be the pyramid. To me a pyramid is a structure that represents order and an attention to detail. In order to become a stronger writer one must recognize his errors. In my previous essays I have not done a good job of expressing my subtopics. I have made the mistake of hiding my subtopics, making them unclear. In order to fix this problem I could create a web or some sort of visual that will allow me to organize my thoughts. Thank you for this opportunity to help me grow as a student and learn how to construct better papers. Starting off I’d like to say that I did take advanced placement (AP) language and composition in high school and received a B in the class, which with the grading curve associated with AP classes is weighted as an A. I learned in that class how to write better in a sense that I can form sentences that sound proper and more professional but not in a way that allowed me to get into all of the little intricacies that writing involves. Over the course of this semester I learned a handful of things about myself as a writer, that will help me develop as a more proficient writer over the course of my four years here. As a writer one of my strengths is backing up my argument with solid and concrete evidence that truly makes the reader believe what they are reading. Another area of my writing that I excel in is being able to process great ideas that follow the guidelines and the prompt. With that being said I have also seen that while the ideas may come with ease, I do have a challenging time with getting the ideas from my head onto paper in a manner that isn’t so disorganized that it makes the reader second guess themselves.
