In the United States an increase in natural gas power plants has been increasing over the years and shows no sign of slowing down. This is due to the fact that natural gas emits 50 percent less carbon emissions than coal and oil(USEPA). This decrease in emissions shows that natural gas is a better alternative than coal or oil power plants but this does not solve the problem of carbon emissions. This solution does produce less carbon but it is only a short term solution and does not solve the carbon problem the world is facing. Renewable energy has almost zero carbon emissions and is a long term solution that is affordable, cost effective, and is safe for the environment. Renewable energy can reduce emissions by 100 percent in the power industry and improve both the environment and climate of the …show more content…
However, many people don’t consider the fact that many electric cars are powered by fossil fuel power plants and this still adds to the problem of carbon emissions. Carbon emissions from transportation are 27 percent of all emissions produced around the world(US Epa). Carbon emissions are almost 10 percent higher from power generation and these emissions produced from transportation can only be solved with technology that has not been invented or developed yet and put on the mass market. Renewable energy for power generation has technology that has already been developed and carbon emissions from power generation are almost ten percent higher than transportation which makes power generation a more pressing issue. Developing more fuel efficient cars, changing designs of cars to reduce fuel consumption, driving more fuel efficient, or switching fuels used in transportation can reduce carbon emissions (US EPA). These techniques can reduce carbon emissions greatly but not at the scale that renewable energy can provide. A 100 percent decrease in carbon emissions in power generation will have the most impact on carbon emissions even though these techniques could reduce carbon emissions. Carbon emissions produced from transportation needs to be addressed, but more beneficial change can be brought
