Rene Magritte’s piece of art called The Therapeutist. This piece of art work was completed in 1937. To add in this artwork was created in the period of surrealism. The painting show an image of a rusty metal bird cage with a square wood plank on the outside of the cage door. The image also shows a dark orange-red blanket covering the back and sides of the cage, and a hat topping of the cage. Also the setting of the art work looks to be at the beach, with light blue sky’s. The Therapeutist by Rene Magritte represents opening-up to others, and supporting them, which can help set them free from there problems.

In the painting, created by Rene Magritte the bird cage has a rusty square form and is elongated. Also, the circular bars of the cage are vertical, and have two thin horizontal metal bars that are on top of those vertical bars. When

Right next to the bird, the metal cage door is open, and inside, the other dove is crouched on a wood peg. The emptiness of the cage creates a sense of space. Also, the two soft white toned doves symbolize friendship and care. Under the red cloak, the dove siting on the outside is trying support the other dove to come out so that he may be set free. Relating to the tittle and the doves, this is the same thing a therapist would do. The artist creates a sense of support meaningfully and visually, by having the bird cage on top of a mans lap. In the painting it appears to be a man because he is wearing black khaki’s and old worn out black dress shoes. Another thing to add to show that The Theraputist by Rene Magritte is about supporting others, is that the man with no head is holding a wood staff.
