From what we know, the Renaissance and the Reformation were two important periods that made numerous changes and modifications in the Church. Both periods affected and rebelled against the fairly unstable and corrupt Catholic Church, and as a result, new religious groups and beliefs were formed. We can also agree that they both contributed and set a base that would later define today’s art and Christianity.
The Renaissance is considered the period that bridged the time between the Middle Ages and modern times, where the Catholic Church lost power due to corruption and disagreements (there were even two popes at the time, where each one claimed to be the true one). This left people confused, since it made them doubt the authority of the Church
