The period between the 14th and 17th century was known as The Renaissance. This was a period of cultural development that began in Italy, Rome, and later spread to the rest of Europe and eventually other parts of the world as well. The word “Renaissance” is a french word which means “Rebirth” (Blackwell). This period is referred to as ‘The Renaissance’ because it was a time of renewal. Around the 11th century, the black death, a very deadly plague that killed up to a third of Europe’s population, had taken a heavy toll on the economy. It left a sense of despair and sorrow.
