The Renaissance was a period of time from the 14th to 17th centuries. The Renaissance, meaning rebirth, is known as the time when the classical age was ‘reborn’ and relearned after the decline of the Dark Ages and gradual inclination of the Middle Ages. People once again gained an interest in philosophy and personal values. The Renaissance started in Europe, around Italy during the 14th century and spread across the continent. Italy had three advantages that allowed for it to be the place of the birth of the Renaissance. The first was that due to its participation in overseas trade many city-states and large towns formed in Northern Italy. When the Bubonic Plague hit, it struck these areas hard, “… killing up to 60 percent of the population.
