The Leadership Challenge The Leadership Challenge book provides great perception on ways to become a better leader. The author will review lessons learned from the first three chapters and provide insight on how some of the leadership qualities have been displayed in her life. When Leaders Are at Their Best At the start of The Leadership Challenge book in the first chapter, it discusses a success leadership story that generates thought into what the author has done in her own past and what can be done from here on out to create a high level of leadership success.…
Carolee Followill is the Collegiate Chapter Director for Delta Zeta. Our chapter is incredibly lucky to have such a well-rounded and learned advisor. Carolee is an exemplary sorority women and it was motivating to see where my sorority can take me. Originally from Alabama, Carolee attended the University of Alabama from 1972-1976. While there, she became a member of Delta Zeta and soon became their corresponding secretary.…
Leadership Ethics The Mayor of Crestview, David Cadle shows Laissez-Faire leadership style. The Laissez-faire leader takes a “hands-off, let-things-ride” approach (Northouse, 2016). The leader abdicates responsibility, delays decisions, gives no feedback, and makes little effort to help followers satisfy their needs. In the case of Crestview, Mayor Cadle didn’t make any comment at the violation of sunshine law by the City Council members.…
Introduction The leadership style of Quint Studer reminds me of a bulb, not because the Studer Group and Foundation carries his name has a bulb in the logo, on the contrary, it encourages to “be the bulb.” As described by Cokeley in (2012) an electric current flowed through a filament of carbonized thread and brought the world into light on New Year’s Eve 1879. It was Edison’s vision, and willingness to share that created dynamic change. Both Edison and Studer are exemplar they set raised bar, and have offered (Psalm119:105) light unto the path of many. His straightforward style is no less than genius is as it involves a flywheel, pillars, and organizational change.…
As a part of this group we went to France and Spain and performed in various villages and towns. In the summer of 2014 I to my project horse to hers and my first A rated show. In the summer of 2015 I went to my second A rated horse show receiving…
My most significant leadership experience would be when I was in the Girls Varsity Tennis Team. I had been in the tennis team during my highschool years, for 2 years. During that time I learned a lot about being a leader, such as what it means to lead others, and what qualities a leader should have. When I first started playing tennis I started at the position on 2nd doubles, to me I took it as that I was not good enough to play against an opponent by myself on the court. Which was entirely true, because when I began playing I was not any good whatsoever.…
Throughout history nations have risen from the ground to become great empires, conquering and ruling over vast lands. Textbooks describe these nations along with their dictators, providing details about life under these countries and the lands obtained. Julius Caesar, Adolph Hitler, Joseph Stalin- these examples of dictators were strong military leaders that gained success for their nations, but their success was short lived.…
I have multiple leadership skills where I have to take my knowledge and and apply it to the situations. I participate in many school activities, although I am not out for sports I still cheer from the pep band sections at every home football and basketball game. I set a good example by helping out my community by serving at Parc Hall in Emmetsburg, and I have helped with the putting together of two new businesses between Graettinger and Ruthven. Community Service…
One way I plan to demonstrate leadership and service is through volunteering to be a sixth grade camp counselor. Counseling middle schoolers would not only improve my responsibility, but it would also be another way that I plan to serve my community and demonstrate leadership. Another way I plan to build character and lead is to join Link Crew during my junior and senior years. I remember my Link Crew leaders during my freshman year and they were very helpful and informative. I also hope to be same positive role model for incoming freshman who are nervous or have questions.…
A time that I have ever taken a leadership role was when I was a junior staff at Kid’s Clubhouse when I was 14. We had taken the kids to the Museum of Natural Science in Raleigh, NC because the place we were going to go had been closed down. It was organized chaos and the kids were wanting to run around the place but we had to remember that everyone was suppose to be back at the bus by 3:30 pm. The time went by and and my partner lost track of time so I had to stand up and tell her that we had to go so that we would not get yelled at.…
Essay Dwight D. Eisenhower once said, “The supreme quality for leadership is unquestionably integrity. Without it, no real success is possible, no matter whether it is on a section gang, a football field, in an army, or in an office.” In other words, the key to be a successful leader that the people love, is to have the respect and compassion for the citizens that you are ruling. Similarly in Macbeth by William Shakespeare, once Macbeth started to alienate his close friends and forget who he truly is, he started to focus more on the power aspect rather than having integrity for the people. Collaborative leadership is the way to go because it gives people, the environment of being together as one, rather than being forced to agree with someone…
I have played 1st trumpet in wind ensemble from 9th-12th grade. In 9th and 10th grade I played piano in jazz band, and in 11th and 12th grade I played second and first trumpet respectively. In last year's solo/ensemble contest I got superior ratings for my trumpet and marimba solos, and and excellent rating for my trumpet duet. I played second chair 1st trumpet in this year's Gold Band at UMD's honor band. I played trumpet in the honor jazz band in 11th and 12th grade.…
Valiant. If I reach a goal I have been trying to seek or trying to find something new that I want to try out I am always very valiant about it, I am extremely dedicated and work very hard on the thing's that I want to complete, I'll set a goal, then reach it. Also, if there is anything that a staff member doesn't want to do, I will happily do it without…
A level 5 leadership consists a leader that is humble, modest, motivated to build lasting greatness, takes responsibility for failure and possess a drive to succeed, an example would be Abraham Lincoln. A Charismatic, are inspirational, self-confidence, taking risks, convincing, they connect with the people (Roberts, 2015), and example would be Mahatma Gandhi and a Transformational leader, they possess good vision, are persuasive, an excellent example is Nelson Mandela. Both these two types, both Charismatic and Transformational would make excellent level 5 leader (Richard Hughes, 2012). A Transactional leader, on the other hand, would not make a very good level 5 leader they are practical, change resistant, achieve objectives through rewards…
The book I chose was Leadership Is an Art, a 136-page self-improvement novel written by Max De Pree the former CEO of Hermann-Miller in 1987. The second edition I purchased on sale for eleven dollars (otherwise valued at twenty-one) was published in New York, New York in 1989 by Double Day. I have always taken leadership roles, whether it is a group project or sports team. I have always liked leading and once I saw this book I was intrigued to see what a chief executive had to say about leadership. Within this novel the author emphasizes multiple times that to be a successful leader there are three things to focus on.…
