The Renaissance period was a time of change. Renaissance mean “rebirth.” It was the rebirth of new ideas and new theories. The Renaissance also helped art and literature expanded to more meaningful and livelier art. The Renaissance lasted from around 1350 to the 1700’s. The Renaissance originated in Florence and it spread from Italy to western and northern Europe. The transition between the middle Ages and the Renaissance are significant and Document A can show that. People originally believed in the geocentric model, geocentric means “Earth Centered” (Doc C). Many people believed in this concept until the Renaissance. A man named Nicolaus Copernicus came up with his own model of the universe. “Relying mostly on mathematics, he developed a very different understanding of the universe” (Doc C). Copernicus ended up coming up with the Heliocentric Model, Heliocentric means “sun-centered” (Doc C). The solar system wasn’t the only thing in question during the Renaissance, People also started to question how the body works. A common belief during the middle ages was that “each sign of the zodiac* governed a certain part of the body” (Doc D). This says that each of your body parts are controlled by a zodiac sign such as Aries the Ram controlled the head of the body (Doc D). People of this ages started questioning if this was true or not, Andreas Vesalius took this matter into his own hands. Vesalius would dissect human corpses to help explain the human body and how it works to his medical students” (Doc D). Vesalius wanted to figure out how the body actually worked and didn’t want a petty reason such as the Zodiacs controlling the human
