Renaissance And Middle Ages Similarities

Similarities The Renaissance and Middle Ages was two completely different time periods, but they also had some things in common with the way they used music. For example, both time periods used music in church and sacred gatherings. The Middle Ages built spaces to be used just for musical performances (Middle). The rooms were large with acoustic qualities and were surrounded by stained glass windows depicting Biblical scenes. In the Renaissance, religion went through Counter-Reformation which tried to hold onto Catholic doctrine while many were following Protestantism, and music during this time was used to move the souls of the faithful (Renaissance). Music was also used as a form of entertainment. In the Middle Ages, people would play music inside of castles for the royal family, and it is still shown today in movies and television shows that are set in the Middle Ages. “The Cricket” was a song written to a humorous poem during the Renaissance era, and the famous story of Robin Hood was actually a song before a story (Renaissance). Music was incorporated with another form of entertainment so that people could enjoy it even more. It gives us a look into how people used music differently even if they used to for the same things we do such as religion and entertainment. Studying both time periods allows us to see how music today has been influenced by music from them past. We can find elements that would surprise us because they might seem too advanced for people from that time, but it had to start somewhere. The ability for us to see how much music has changed and became more advanced is a really good way for us to continue to advance and continue to make changes in
