Remodeling is a cyclical process of bone resorption and deposition at one site. Wolff’s Law stated that bone is deposited where it is needed and removed from where it is not needed, thereby shaping and sizing itself according to mechanical needs. Bone remodeling continues throughout life. This continuous remodeling allows an individual to maintain a constant supply of new bone. This stops bone from getting old and brittle. The process of remodeling is a two-step process. First, bone is removed by osteoclasts and then osteoblasts deposit new material. These two steps are known as resorption and deposition.
