Within in this paper an older adult will be identified as anyone above the age of 60 (JM, et al., 1997).For the purpose of this paper depression will be defined as a mood disorder, with continual sadness and failure to maintain previous interest. Interfering with an individual’s ability to complete daily tasks (NIMH).This paper will examine the effects of Reminisce Therapy on older adults to reduce the symptoms of: long-term feelings of sadness and anxiety, hopelessness, change in eating habits, loss of interest in once enjoyable hobbies, sleep changes, and suicidal thoughts (NIMH). Like any mental health issue, each case of depression is unique to the individual. Not everyone will experience the same time frame, degree, or exact symptom the same way. Like older adults there are multiple health issues occurring at once. An older adult experiencing physical health issues co-occurring with depression can and often will have magnified symptoms (NIMH). Depression does not affect men and women equally.
