It’s incredible how sports can bring people together. It does not matter what race you are, how much money you make, or where you live; sports have an amazing way of showing how much respect players have for their teammates on and off the field. Walt Disney Pictures created an amazing film called “Remember the Titans” in 2000 that shows people how football created a bond between blacks and whites in a community where they were forced to merge together.
The setting of the movie is in Alexandria, Virginia in 1971. The movie begins by telling the viewers that, “High school football is a way of life. It’s bigger than Christmas day (Remember the Titans, 2000).” An adorable young girl tells us in the beginning of the movie that her dad, coach Bill, coached in Alexandria. She explains to us that her dad is a hardworking man, and her mom left him. The movie …show more content…
After that, the movie jumps ahead a few years later to a funeral for the team captain who was sadly killed. The movie shows us that Boone coached for a few more years with coach Yoast as his assistant. This movie can teach young and older people about equality and that we should always treat people with respect no matter what color they are. Also, this movie can teach us that sports can solve problems in a community and bring people together. I think schools should show this movie to kids to show them how an amazing coach ended racism and discrimination with his players and that resulted in equality in the community. “Remember The Titans” will persuade people to become a better person in their community. I love the quote at the end, “Before we reach for hate, we should always remember the Titans (Remember the Titans, 2000).” If anyone ever sees hate in their community, watch “Remember The Titans” and learn how they overcame hate in their community and how it changed the world
