There are many conflicts throughout the film 'Remember the Titans', which is set in 1971 in West Virginia, Alexandra, and directed by Boaz Yakin. One important conflict is between Gerry and Julius, this conflict deepens the understanding of Gerry and Julius' relationship. Another important conflict is between Gerry and Ray, revealing how their relationship wasn’t the strongest. These conflicts also help to convey Boaz Yakin's messages. Gerry and Julius run into conflict when they do not get along. This is shown early on, including a scene in which they are on a bus , Julius is seen telling his friends to "stop your singing", when Gerry agrees with this statement Julius fires back at him in a two shot with " you can shut up too." …show more content…
Ray doesn't which Gerry responds with "what was that Ray! Whatever it was it ain't blocking." The implications of this is that it is a signpost to what is to come. Ray says in one scene that he is biding his time, which shows he has no plan to block for the blacks on his team. This causes Gerry to question their friendship. Therefore, Ray not blocking causes conflict between him and Gerry. This conflict is resolved when Gerry eventually kicks Ray off the team. This displays the message of following your conventions. In a big game Ray doesn't block, which causes Rev's wrist to be broken by the opposing team's tackle. This is the last straw for Gerry. "Ray you're off." Ray responds with "you're willing to throw away our friendship for them. You can keep 'em." This shows that although the conflict is over so is their friendship. As well as displaying how Gerry followed his conventions. This shows that their friendship was not as strong as once thought. This also strengthens they understanding of how strong Gerry and Julius' friendship is compared to Gerry and Ray's. Even though Ray and Gerry's and friendship seemed strong Ray's unwillingness to change ruined
