The poem ‘Remember’ is structured in the form of a sonnet. There are 14 lines in the poem, divided into an octave(8 lines) and a sestet(6 lines), providing a sense of intensity. Rossetti uses a diverse range of language devices for example similes and metaphors. In my perspective, I would say the strongest one is the usage of repetition. The word ‘remember’ is constantly repeated in the poem, instilling the idea into our heads. Moreover, ‘remember’ is used in the first line as an imperative word which creates a strong and direct opening. By repeating the phrase ‘remember me’ throughout the poem it is as if she fears that her beloved one will forget her. There are other repetitions used by Rossetti such as ‘ gone away’ in the first line and ‘Gone far away’ in the second line to reinforce the distance between her and her beloved one which also emphasises the boundary between life and death. The first one is ‘death be not proud’ in the first line. It is the emphatic command directly to death. The poet puts the argument forward to evoke a sense of eternal life towards the end. In this phrase, death would be the person the poet talks to. He dismisses death and does not see death as a threat.
