Abortion is defined in different ways by different people. The word Abortion by definition means the deliberate termination of a Fetus from the womb of a woman before it is able to survive independently (Dictionary, 2015). There are many issues is Canada, America, and in other countries today such as violence, drugs, and teenage pregnancy that is on the rise. However, abortion is an important and serious issue within the generation of today since there are so many young girls getting pregnant and trying to take the easy way out by having an abortion because of their foolish mistakes. The strongest biblical evidence used against abortion is the prohibition to commit murder (Exodus 20:13) and the teaching that it is God alone who should be the giver and the taker of life (Religious views on Abortion). Abortion is a grave offence against God and His creation and it is the murder of an innocent, free from sin, child of God. Within the various religious circles, the continuous debate on whether a Fetus is a living being or not comes back to the same statement, which is, a human being is made once it is conceived. Each religious belief has its own views on the concept of abortion but they all lead up to the same answer, that abortion is morally wrong. In the Catholic Church, the practice of abortion is considered not acceptable. “The Roman Catholic Church teaches that abortion is wrong and any member of the church who is involved in the practice of abortion can be removed from the church” (Religious Groups’ Official Positions on Abortion, 2013). The consequences of practicing abortion within the Catholic Church are done because, the Catholic Church believes that every human being’s life is sacred, and taking the life of an innocent human, born or unborn, is morally wrong. The Catholic Church also teaches that every human life is sacred from the beginning to the end because we are the creations of God. In the same way, Buddhism believes in rebirth and teaches that individual human life begins at conception. “The new being, bearing the karmic identity of a recently deceased individual, is therefore as entitled to the same moral respect as an adult human being” (Keown, 2004). According to the teachings of Buddha, if a woman decides to have an abortion, she has provided an intention to kill and therefore violating the teachings of Buddha (Keown, 2004). There are no consequences for choosing the action of abortion however; it may generate bad karma for the mother and the abortionist
