Freedom to worship is the most important freedom that our traditions and values endure. Religion was often bloody back in the day. They eventually passed a law or rule that you couldn't kill people because of religion anymore. There are traditions done that families and other religions do also. Religion was a big deal way back then and that is why religions protected now. “The real story religion in America's past is an often awkward, frequently embarrassing and occasionally bloody tale that most civics books and high school text either paper over or shunt to the side.” (Davis 473pg). It talks about how our history is awkward and embarrassing. Our history is awkward and embarrassing because in the past we thought that everyone had to believe the same thing. We didn't believe in letting people believe in their own religion. People were beat and even killed for worshiping another religion than our own. If religion isn't a big deal why were people executed and discriminated for their religion? This means that nobody can no longer be beaten or killed for what they believe. This is a big deal because many, many people have been killed and beaten for their religion and this makes it to where that is no longer acceptable. You couldn't kill or hang people and not face consequences. Some people would be willing to kill someone and face the consequences because they thought it was right by their beliefs. If religion isn't a big deal why was there a law passed saying something that has been going on for years can no longer happen? For there to be a law passed about religion i think it would be a exceeding
