Religious Literacy is Essential for Righteous Living
Religious literacy entails the knowledge individuals possess concerning their religion (Prothero 10). There has been a need to pursue religious literacy due to the realization of the high levels of illiteracy in the field of religion among individuals around the world. Personally, my interest in religious literacy began at birth. In other words, it is attributed to the Southern Baptist Church. I was born in an African American Christian family where my father was a pastor at the nearby Southern Christian Baptist church. He convened family prayer meetings regularly to ensure that we grew up as God-fearing individuals. Normally, in such meetings, he emphasized on the essence of righteous living. Throughout my life, I have always felt that upright life is an obligation. Religious literacy is essential for righteous living.
On a given day, at the the age of five, while attending a church service, I realized how difficult it was for my two friends to locate the scriptures. I became so worried that I decided to talk to my father about it. It was at that moment when my father

Precisely, it (religious literacy) has enable me to incorporate virtues such as patience and humility in my personality. I believe the virtues have made a better person. In addition, I am now aware of the origin of the dominant religious faiths. Concisely, I have learnt that Christianity, islam, and Judaism are known as Abrahamic faiths (Idler 153). In common, they all acknowledge the vitality of Abraham in the history of religion. As if not enough, the faiths recognize Moses and Elijah as great prophets of God (Spurway 15). In future, I would like to travel to other continents especially Africa, to enhance religious literacy. Since most persons tend to confuse religious literacy with the mastery of the bible, I would love everyone to know the differences between the two

What my husband's advancement to Chief Petty Officer means to me? The answer of that question could be 10 pages long or I could just resume what I feel in one word, "extremely proud", well I guess two words. I met Christian 16 years ago, he was full of energy, funny, and he had the ability to turn any sad or bad situation into a joke making everybody laugh; that is what make me fell in love with him. On the other hand, he was a little immature, unfocused when it comes to work, and nothing seemed to fulfill his expectations. I always knew that his passion was a career in the military, but that was out of question in my book!…

I never intended to be an illegal smuggler. Seriously. But when four-year-old me found out that preschool had "naptimes" (in which apparently nobody napped, making it a waste of time to me), I decided to take matters into my own hands, with drastic measures. The next day, my top-secret contraband came in with me, in the form of a book. At 1:30, while everyone else did whatever preschoolers do during naptime, the book snuck out of its carefully concealed hiding place and I disappeared into its pages.…

Religious Response I have struggled with stories from the news of Catholic priests embroiled in child molestations and questioned my involvement or associating myself with an institution that not only denies some of the accusations but also hides the facts from the public. I sometimes ignore the stories thinking that hatred towards these evil people will stress me out to the point where I will leave the church completely for the lack of trust and deceptive tactics played on the congregation. What kind of person does this acts? What goes through their devious minds as they continue to practice their rituals and preach the gospel?…

Mrs. Eddy (as she is colloquially referred to by her followers) was the woman who came to found the Christian Science religion, based on the metaphysical New Thought movement, in 1879 (Christian Science, “What is Christian Science?”). For individuals who are born into the modern Christian Science church, understanding the concept of “divinity” in the…

A well-taught class is one that provides you with proper knowledge on the subject, while simultaneously putting the subject matter in the larger context of a shared history and current affairs. For centuries religion has been in conversation with almost every academic pursuit created by man. Naturally, the argument of how religion should be taught in schools is part of the argument on the best way for American students to be taught, as it should be. Currently, public schools, especially secondary schools, are merely ignoring religion altogether and have silently agreed to keep it largely outside of academic conversation. However, ignoring religion is a fruitless effort that negatively affects students.…
