Religious Getaway Camp

Decent Essays
When I grow up I plan on doing great things. I want to help Jews become more religious. I want to teach fellow Jews the Torah and the Hebrew language. I want to teach them the holiness of Shabbat and other Jewish holidays. These ideas combine to form my main idea, a religious get-away, which is my dream that I hope to accomplish. The idea for a religious get-away first struck me while I was at Jewish sleepaway camp during the summer. I found many non-observant Jews who didn’t know the basics of their heritage or history. I found a lot of people who weren’t religious. They didn’t keep shabbos and didn’t know the Hebrew language. I believe that all Jews should know basic Jewish knowledge. We all need to be brought closer to our creator, our one and only G-d, Hashem. If we all learn this, Mashiach will come. The way this will inspire me is I will be able to teach Jews from around the world Torah knowledge and it will brighten up their life and mine. I will go into depth and learn things from the Torah maybe I didn’t know before.

My greatest accomplishment will be the creation of this program, a spiritual getaway for people who are interested in exploring their faith and trying to come closer to Hashem. The resort is open to people of all religious backgrounds and even people who are interested in learning about conversion to Judaism.

We try to make the classes as practical as possible. For example, at lunch we teach about mitzvos related to food. Guests are grouped together by their level of education so that everyone at the table is at the same pace. In the evening, their teacher discusses what happened that day. Although the teachers are given a standard curriculum, guests are encouraged to ask any questions about any topic they wish, and can learn as much or as little as they want. Finally, they have the rest of the night off to do whatever they

Wide spectrum of abilities: Having a inclusive class with a wide range of children and abilities could also cause a problem when supporting learning activities, ensuring that all children are engaged, involved and fully understand the task that has been set. This can be dealt with by splitting the children in to ability based groups and providing the appropriate work for each group and setting achievable targets. By encouraging the higher ability children to help those struggling will help keep the class working at a similar pace.…

    Religion In The Shack

The Shack presents an immensely personal perspective of the Christian faith. Organized religion can sometimes put a dampener on a person’s personal relationship with God. The Shack represents how our own views shape our religious experience the most; not the Church’s cut and paste version. An example of Mack’s own personal views are the forms the holy trinity takes as God as an African American woman, the Holy Spirit as an Asian woman, and Jesus as a Hebrew man (Young 84). Even to some ‘establishment’ Christians, simply suggesting God taking the form of a human other than in Jesus is highly offensive.…

One accomplishment I am most proud of is teaching myself to play the piano. Music has always been one of my favorite things in life. When I was younger, I would try to come up with song lyrics and was also interested in learning guitar. My dad played when he was younger but never played much after he had kids. I was fortunate enough one day to get a piano from a close family friend.…

Our initial and final syllabi represent two snapshots into our class-- how we originally expected our class to be formatted, and how the course ended up arranged. While there are several commonalities between our two syllabi, there are also some differences. Many of the similarities stem from the fact that all of the days/activities we had on our original syllabus (discussion days, guest speaker days, etc.) remained present on our final syllabus; the major change came from a new arrangement of those days. The major impetus that led to a change in the arrangement of classes was scheduling our two guest speakers. When we initially reached out to schedule our guest speakers (Sex Jeopardy and CMHS), we did not realize quite how difficult…

During my JA in a Day internship, I learned quickly that student engagement would be important to the lesson plan. Having younger classes, I knew that we would have to keep the students engaged or they would lose interest quickly. A main engagement strategy we used was positive reinforcement. Students, especially the younger ones, want to be praised for their hard work. While the students were working on the activities, my partner and I would constantly let the students know they were doing a great job.…

We started the first day of this course talking about teacher identity. I do not think my opinion about my identity as a teacher has changed drastically during the semester. I did change some aspects of the way I teach, however I still do not completely identify myself as a teacher. That is because I am a graduate student and I want to be successful as a student, before being successful as a teacher. I enjoy teaching right now, but I think that when being a teacher will be my full time job, then my opinion about my teacher identity will change more.…
