At the beginning of the assignment I felt anxious and scared since the first day I heard that I had to visit a religious site outside my own. I had no idea where to go and how to begin I know in Miami there are about 274 church according to the Miami Dade County. In addition, I went over the list of churches but every moment I was supposed to make a choice I postpone it because I was a little intimidated going alone. Since I can remember going to church I found it boring with the old music since I was so young I couldn’t appreciate the music or understand. I only went to churches when it was a funeral which only has been about two or three times. The weekend that I was postponing the visit site again two ladies about in their 40s or 50s where visiting houses in my neighborhood and that’s is the beginning of how I found site visit without me even trying. Moreover, I thought they were Jehovah witnesses but they told me they were Christian and they were visiting house …show more content…
“In Christianity, ritual acts meant to convey God's grace” and each time one of the principal church members talked to the people of the congregation they said all the glory and every done is for God. One of the observations I did was that each time the band played the people of the congregation they either closed their eyes singing, put their hand up, or even cry of happiness. In my whole life this experience instead of being annoying, boring it actually let me see the other phase of that religion, learn their customs, and even participate. The first time I went I dress casual and most of the people were dress casual as well but the first Sunday and the other Sundays I went they were dress nicely and I felt a little out of place but not that much since I don’t care that much about

The site that I visited was Mercy Hill Church in Greensboro, NC. I went to a sermon, with some friends, that took place on a Sunday night. When we arrived at the church, we stayed together and observed the site. The members of this church all seemed to be within their twenties and thirties; there were a few younger children and a few older women and men, but not many. Most of these people seemed to be from Christian ethnic backgrounds or just unaffiliated with any ethnicity.…

What my husband's advancement to Chief Petty Officer means to me? The answer of that question could be 10 pages long or I could just resume what I feel in one word, "extremely proud", well I guess two words. I met Christian 16 years ago, he was full of energy, funny, and he had the ability to turn any sad or bad situation into a joke making everybody laugh; that is what make me fell in love with him. On the other hand, he was a little immature, unfocused when it comes to work, and nothing seemed to fulfill his expectations. I always knew that his passion was a career in the military, but that was out of question in my book!…

It was a whole new church that my family was just attending while we were passing through the area, in all honesty I probably only attended five churches in my life prior, due to the fact that my family travelled so vigorously. This being said I wasn’t very holy I just kinda went because due to my age I ended up playing games most the time, never really having to be preached too. This church was contrastive than the prior experiences I was exposed to because I had to go to the main service area with my mother and father. To be blunt this was my first formal introduction to “my lord.” It began with singing, which I even had to endure at the children's ministry, but then came the hour and a half of my first meeting with who this man people always talked about really was.…

“School”, a word that many young children and adults hate to hear or speak. In elementary and high school, students attend classes seven hours a day, five days a week, nine months out of the year. Going to an institution of education is a youth’s full time job. Learning becomes the only thing important in their lives and they are required to devote a large majority of their time to it. Spending almost 12 years of my life in a school, it has had a large influence on my life.…

“Set your affections on things above; love one another; commune at the table of our Lord in one spirit; worship in spirit and in truth; and if daily adoring, imploring, and living the divine Life, Truth, Love, thou shalt partake of the bread that cometh down from heaven, drink of the cup of salvation, and be baptized in Spirit,” wrote Mary Baker Eddy in 1898 (Christian Science Versus Pantheism). Mrs. Eddy (as she is colloquially referred to by her followers) was the woman who came to found the Christian Science religion, based on the metaphysical New Thought movement, in 1879 (Christian Science, “What is Christian Science?”). For individuals who are born into the modern Christian Science church, understanding the concept of “divinity” in the…

Growing up in a Mexican American household, most likely one is to be raised Catholic. Therefore, as a young boy it became ordinary to follow and believe in what my parents instilled in me. Furthermore, I never had the courage to explore any other religion and get a sense of what other religions are about. However, now that I am taking Social Work 461 with Dr. Tillman, one of my assignments is to attend a religious service that is held by a group that is different from mine. As a result, I decided to attend a Buddhist temple to get an insight of what the Buddhist religion is about.…

Going to church was a very eye opening experience, especially since it was nothing was I expected it to be. I expected to have to put on a nice dress and sing some songs from a book and then listen to a man talk for an hour about nothing that I knew. But that wasn’t the case. I was able to sing and dance along with the music, and could actually relate to what the pastor was saying to us. I am very glad that I chose to go to a new church, because it was not only a good topic for a paper, but I was also an experience that could possibly change the rest of my…

I decided to observe a Roman Catholic Mass service for my fieldwork report. On June 12, 2016 at 9 A.M. I attended the Mass service of the Roman Catholic church at the Mayport Naval Station Chapel in Jacksonville, Florida. I chose to observe this religion because I was interested in observing the differences between the Catholic denomination of Christianity and the denomination of Christianity with which I identify. Attending Mass is the only way in which a devote Catholic can fulfill the commandment to keep the sacred Sabbath day. The traditional Roman Catholic Mass service involves a prayer, scripture reading, hymns, rituals, and a lesson on how to live a devote Catholic life based on the Gospel readings.…

For my musical ethnography, I was originally going to attend a showing of the “Rocky Horror Picture Show”, but it ended up being sold out last minute. At that point, I began to worry because that was the only event I had planned to attend. As my worry was starting to progress, I remembered, and also took a quick glance at the types of events we could attend and saw that it said we could attend a religious service. I quickly looked up services in my area for the next day and came across a website called “WON Buddhism of North Carolina”. It peaked my interest and I found out that a service was going on the next day in Chapel Hill, NC which is fairly close to me since I reside at home.…
