Religious stereotypes leads a fear of one particular religion. Islam, is a prime example. Some people may think that this problem is not an important thing and doesn’t need to be brought up. However it has caused so many people to be ostracized, humiliated, and discriminated for no reason. But over the past few years, governments around the world have begun to acknowledge the problem with religious stereotyping. Amnesty International held a conference in Europe to educate different governments on preventing anti- Semitist behavior. They argued that too many people in Europe were confused “between Islam and radical Islam and violence." (Sterling) Also, schools have begun to educate their students and staff about how these stereotypes are incorrect. In St. Aloysius School in Harlem, both teachers and students are being taught about all of the different religions in the world to ensure that they understand the world around them. Now a lot of people think that alone they can’t help solve the religious stereotyping problem. However, there is so many things that one person can do to help. They can educate themselves about different religions, so they don’t assume that stereotypes are true. They should also correct people around them if they mention a stereotype. And they should stop judging people, and making jokes about other religions.
Religious stereotyping has been a huge problem in our society, and has subjected millions of people to discrimination, which violates their human rights. It has led to discrimination in the workplace, alienation, and has caused people to fear others. However, people have begun to acknowledge the problem, and all you need to do is learn about other religions, and make sure that you don’t use religious stereotyping in your everyday
