There are a lot of factors behind genocide, one of them is religions. The question is “How can religions becomes the factor behind genocide?’ According to “Religioustolerance.org”, there are some factors, which are:
Differences in Doctrine and Mentality Attitude
Differences in doctrine has been the cause of conflict and genocide, including the genocide towards the religions. The differences in doctrine means that each party has a sense of pride in their religion, they also comparing their religion with other religions, and also appraised their own religion with other religions. In the scale of assessment, they always judge subjectively. The highest value is always given to their own religion and their own religion must always be a role model by other religions. They consider their religion as the most superior religion. However, in fact, all religions have their own belief about God and the rules, each human free to choose the religion based on their believes. The differences in doctrine and perspective about the religions then becomes the background of the conflict or genocide.

Countries that have a multicultural society is very sensitive with ethnic and racial differences, even religious differences. In countries that have been conflict and genocide, such as some countries in Middle East or even Europe (Bosnia), religious issues is often associated with differences in race and ethnicity. It’s mean that religion used as a tool to destroy a groups, race, or other religions to achieve a goal, such as for take over an area, even
