In this part of the book I chose 7 schools of thought, 5 major religious beliefs, spiritual awareness and the scientific view point. Religion, science and spiritual methods all change or evolve overtime, from new discoveries of planets to the creations of sub religions from the older religions and so on. Through all the changes of beliefs and facts one theme remain consistent in all, all that humans do, do to find happiness. We work to make money to be happy, we join communities and groups to find salvation, for security, friendships and a place to belong all to find happiness; we have children and get married to find happiness. We get revenge, manipulate and do horrible things to each other and the earth because we believe it will result in our happiness. While Religion, Spiritual awareness and Science differ greatly, all agree that energy is infinite whatever you chose call it, be it God, the universe or atoms; and happiness can be achieved through goodness.

Around three thousand years ago, a story about the creation of the universe came into existence. This story, overtime became the agreed-upon functioning story for Western society. A shared and fixed understanding of creation unified people, despite turbulent times. However in response to the destruction of the Black Death, people began to think of the world in one of two different ways. The first was “towards a religious redemption out of a tragic world,” and the other was, “towards a greater control of the physical world” (Berry 125).…

“Imperfection is perfection to a beautiful perspective.” Throughout the story the kurt vonnegut shows the reader that in order to prove that the world is perfect you must first realize it will never be just that. When you aim for perfection, you’ll realize it’s an impossible target there is no one way to hit it correctly and it will always be that way no matter how long you try or how many times you try. No one thing can we perfect, that’s why pencils have erasers, we all make mistakes and do bad things but that doesn’t make us bad people it makes us normal, because normal definitely isn’t perfect.…

Throughout the region and perhaps the country the staple ghost story is the story of a ghostly hitchhiker. “Endless variations on the “vanishing hitchhiker” story are some of the most frequently shared of all community tales across the United States. Whoever started the hitchhiker story in our own region simply proves its persistence in American lore as one of the more widespread… (Thacker 38)”. In Mountain Mysteries by Larry Thacker the hitchhiker is known as “Gabriel’s Messenger”. There are three encounters with the messenger in Mountain Mysteries, each of them picked the man up on the Middleborough side of the Cumberland Tunnel and before they reached the other side the passenger has vanished, always leaving them with a message.…

    1. Agbonkhianmeghe Orobator summarized his lecture by using the expression of Pope Francis: “In the Bible, the God who liberates and saves is the same God who created the universe...” in order to proceed to the interrelationship of creation, salvation, and ecology. Relying on the background of African “religions” and spirituality, Orobator presented four important points: an affirmation of a vital commission between humanity and the environmental ecology, restoration of harmony or balance in co-creation, holistic understanding of humanity and environmental ecology or a cosmic dimension of salvation, and a universal covenant or communion between humanity and nature. 2. A cosmic dimension of salvation requires foremost a holistic understanding of humanity and environmental ecology.…

“The Birth-Mark” by Nathaniel Hawthorne is a short story that carries an important moral. In the story, Aylmer sets out to achieve perfection. He does not consider the consequences of his actions due to the fact that he is too overtaken by reaching ultimate, physical perfection. He is obsessed with his wife’s external appearance to the extent that a small birthmark, considered beautiful by many, deeply bothers him. He wishes to remove it because he believes that it spoils her otherwise perfect beauty.…

Evening Thoughts by Thomas Berry Thomas Berry argues that a confluence of developments and ideologies of mankind has led to an end of the Cenozoic era, and that the “expansion of the life systems of earth is being terminated,” necessitating a commitment by mankind to embark upon a “transformation from an anthropomorphic norm of reality and value to a biocentric or geocentric norm,” which he describes as the Ecozoic era (43). He proposes that the underlying impetus to mankind’s troubled relationship with the natural world can be found in a spiritual outlook that has neglected the fact that “the natural world itself is the “primary economic reality, the primary educator, the primary governance, the primary healer, the primary presence of the sacred, the primary moral value,” while man is derivative (30). To this end, Berry believes that “the story of the universe expresses a functional cosmology that needs to be taught at every level of education,” making it necessary to “renew our sense of the sacred character of the universe and the planet Earth,” in an attempt to “establish a mutually enhancing mode of human-Earth relations” (21-2). Berry begins by discussing the prevalent mindset of mankind with regards…

However, I must confess that I do not consider perfection to be an impossibility, or even a possibility, but rather the actuality and reality of the infinite universe in which we live. I believe that Life is perfect, just the way it is, and that it is getting better every day. Perfection does not mean that things could not be better, or more abundant, or greater in some way. Perfection describes that state of existence to which nothing can be added, or subtracted; a whole and complete state of being that increases and improves by a greater expression of what it already is. Perfection defines the infinite, the one Life in which we live, move and have our being.…

The Impact of Death on Belief in Intelligent Design vs. Evolution Evolution claims that through the process of natural selection, the best genetic traits are passed to offspring. The theory of intelligent design states that life can only be explained if there is an intelligent being leading the process. As demonstrated in Jessica L. Tracey’s paper, “Death and Science: The Existential Underpinnings of Belief in Intelligent Design and Discomfort with Evolution,” many turn to intelligent design in a search for meaning when faced with their own mortality. Despite the scientific proof supporting evolutionary theory, intelligent design is a worthwhile theory because it provides people with what they seek, which is purpose and meaning. Evolutionary theorists believe there’s no meaning to our existence, denying the possibility of a soul or afterlife.…
