How Does Religion Harm Humankind

Six billion years ago, along with the first humans, many concepts appeared on earth. Religion, created as common sense guidelines for the cavemen and the hunters and gathers, was among them. It was created for humans of all colors, sizes and backgrounds, would to coexist peacefully. Religion causes chaos, and wars, and death of the innocent. Religion is harmful limits the intellectual capacity of the humankind, gives false hope, divides the people, and causes harm to innocent lives.

There are my examples of extremists’ around the world today that we are well aware of thanks to the internet. Out of them, the most well-known is ISIS (Abdallah). The Islamic group of rebels came to light after a video was posted showing its members mercilessly beheading normal citizens just prove that they are powerful. They use religion to justify their actions and to continue these horrendous exercise. Another practice, called Dowry, has also caused many women to suffer for years. Dowry is an illegal practice in South Asia according to which bride’s parents give money and wealth to groom’s parents during their wedding. Numerous examples of women being burnt alive by the in-laws because of not getting enough Dowry has come up all across India and Pakistan. A women was even “held captive and denied any connection to the outside world, even her own daughter (“India Woman 'Held Captive for Three Years over Dowry ' Rescued”). She had been hidden away from the outside world solely because her parents were not able to fulfill the wishes of the in-laws. Religion, which caused the beginning of many such practices, has caused a lot of suffering. Likewise, there have also been incidents when Catholic hospitals denied help to women who need help with miscarriages. A story of such an incident comes from Ireland where a woman died after the Catholic hospital discharged her without the abortion which could have saved her life (Madrak).
