With The Knight’s Tale religion was mentioned in the help of the gods. The gods were to help the two prisoners in battle and were worshiped by these two. The religion was controlled by what these two characters believed in, thus changing the outcome of their battle. Viewed by some perspectives Arcite was granted death because of the harmfulness he wished upon Palamon. This directly correlates with the quote because the poor are angered that they do not have what the rich do so they start to pray. Whether they pray for the same happiness or wealth they continue to worship. Thus later calming these people down from being so hastily to judge the more fortunate. But, there is a downside to this. Some people may take this to the extreme with such a result like that of Arcite. The norm of society is to criticize a specific type of religion. When something occurs that is harmful or affects other individuals, religion is always blamed. People take into effect the “bad” religion. They blame the religion because it is not the same as what they believe in. This then becomes a problem. This occurs so much that it puts a bad reputation on that religion. It then gains publicity and becomes something no one can worship since it is so harmful. The religious god that Arcite worshiped was viewed very harmful, since he was the god of war. Palamon was praised in some eyes because his goddess was not stereotyped as harmful but loving, since she was the goddess of love. This makes a severe impact on the world.
