these two definitions can described and be applied to the meaning of the title The Crucible . the hysteria and lies sparked the people of Salem , and the Salem community was finally brought to melting point , this was what happened when the let themselves to deception and deceit , and megalomania of trials . Miller had chosen the title to show different meanings behind it , the both of title interpretation refers to fiery and igneous events of the trials , as well as it presented personal tests of faith experienced by many characters in the play .
According to the genre , the crucible was a modern tragedy drama , because many people of this play suffered from deceit and injustice .proctor was the tragic hero of The Crucible , who refused to be a victim for the mass hysteria of the city , and he deserved to preserve hid dignity rather than to be helpless for fear and terror of the court .
