There are many components that influence Australian society as a whole, and contribute to different aspects of the nation. Christianity is the predominant religion within Australia therefore it has made a great impact on many factors that contribute to society such as law, healthcare and social welfare. The Catholic Church is one of the largest providers for social welfare services within Australia. A number of Christian denominations have significantly contributed to social welfare services through various different organisations, that all aim to battle social injustices and assist individuals who may be less fortunate. Organisations such as Catholic Mission, Caritas and St Vincent De Paul are all Christian organisations that aim to continue the work of Jesus Christ within the world. Christianity has played a leading role throughout social welfare in Australia and it’s evidently shown with the number of organisations that are present in today’s society, that all contribute by helping assist individuals with the many different issues faced each day. However, the basic issue is that in recent years, there is seen to be a rise in the number of people that are facing poverty, homelessness, violence and other social issues. The social welfare services assist individuals in achieving their basic human rights and needs. According to data collected by St Vincent De Paul it is estimated that their organisation itself helps around 2,243,261 people each year throughout Australia.
