Social Media Influence On Religion

Religion is known as “a personal set or institutionalized system of religious attitudes, beliefs, and practices” (Religion). Throughtout history religion has played a significant role. It has changed throughout time beginning with B.C. and continuing until today. We began with Jesus Christ who was Jewish. Now we have so many religions and different gods to believe in. In history religion was expected to diminish and become less important. However, it has done the opposite and become one of the most important concerns of today. Everywhere you look there is something about religion. Whether it be a church on every corner, an ad or anouncement on tv or someone speaking about it next to you. It is so easy to practice religion. There is not even a need to go to church anymore. There are reglions that can be practiced online, people can read books or they can practice it themselves with their own group or by themselves. Social media is also shaping the way we look and think about religion. Before social media people had to go to church to know what was happening or had to be involved with something. Now there are people who only use social media to practice religion. Such as a facebook page called Jesus Daily where they post daily religious bible versus and call themselves a religious organization. In the Bible it is said that Jesus Christ was Jewish. We then discovered Christianity, Catholosim, Athesim, Islam, Buddhism etc. Every culture has its own religion and according to “Religous Facts” there are over 40 main religions. This also does not include small unrecognized religions. The world has no one set religion to believe in. Some religions believe in one God while others believe in many gods. There are also religions that believe in the same thing just in a different way. “For example, some see Jesus Christ as a sort of warrior against sin; some see the Christ as a god of ove, unconcerned about sin; still others regard Jesus as a male human being who managed to live the perfect life and should therefore be emulated.
