Religion And Art Analysis

Historically, religion has had tremendous influence on art and the type of artwork in different cultures. All religions, influenced the artwork produced in that culture because it glorified religious beliefs and promoted ideas to “influence people and their behaviors.” Christianity had the biggest influence on their artwork because it mainly focused on their god and his life. Judaism and Islam both use symbols in their artwork to show images about their god . Buddhism and Hinduism both use sculptures in their artwork because it is representing multiple gods. According to the unit, “Christianity is monotheistic, or based on belief in one deity.” The Christian daily practices and beliefs are about Jesus Christ. The Jewish writings, laws, and traditions focus on not just the people but their religious practices. Some of the information i learned in the unit, “Because a commandment in the Hebrew Bible says to make no graven images, many Jews have leaned toward an iconoclastic view of art.” The Islam religion is also a monotheistic religion.

People who practice the Islamic religion are called Muslims. The beliefs and teachings of the muslims are based from prophet muhammad. I learned that in the unit, “ Buddhism encompasses a group of beliefs and practices based on the teachings of a man named Siddhartha Gautama, commonly called the Buddha.” The teachings that he included were; behaving kindly and ethically, doing good works, renouncing worldly goods, studying, learning, and meditating. The buddhist were leaning toward the aniconic type of art. In the unit it says that, “The art relied on images that represented the Buddha without actually showing him.” The Hindu beliefs ranged from monotheism to polytheism.
