Students who are twice-exceptional often are not given the services they require to learn to their potential, including both accommodations and opportunities to go deeper in their learning (Willard-Holt et al., 2013). These same students may not have the same level of support at home, due to how their exceptionalities interact with each other and how parent expectations change as a result. The lower level of support can then turn into lower self-concept (Barber & Mueller, 2011). Because students who are twice-exceptional are often overlooked, it is important for me as a preservice teacher to be able to fill that gap in my future classroom and school (Barber & Mueller, 2011; Willard-Holt et al., 2013).
