He exhibited most of these throughout the story such as: Selective attention, Glazing over, Appreciative listening, Informational listening, Skepticism, Empathetic listening, Close-mindedness, and Inspirational listening. A situation where selective attention was at play, was when Leslie died. He didn’t listen to anyone and absolutely would not let anyone talk to him or anything for that matter. This also included Glazing over, many times in the movie after she died, it showed him not feeling anything and just spacing out. Appreciative listening was exhibited when he was listening to Leslie the first time talking about Terabithia and how the dragonflies were warriors. This included Informational listening as well as a bit of Skepticism included. He didn’t believe what she was saying and really felt like time and time again she was spewing non-sense. When he first saw Leslie, he showed a lot of closed-mindedness and she specifically said to open your mind. She was telling him things such as pinecones were grenades, an old tree-house was a castle, and the forest was being destroyed by the Dark lord or something the rather. There was a time where Jesse fell off of a tree and was “caught” by the troll and someone came off without any injuries. There was also a time in the movie where Leslie could control the wind by saying if the Terabithians could hear her. Even if there are things like that in the movie, that was in their fantasy world. In the real world, Jesse and Leslie held a realistic relationship and went through real things. I do have to say though, that sometimes the bullying was a little overboard from reality and the classroom settings were also a little overboard. Many things that occurred in the classroom weren’t really aligning with reality and overall still made the movie feel more real even though it wasn’t. I also have to say that Leslie dying when Jesse went out was a little unrealistic but still made a huge impact to the story. The dying of Leslie made people actually appreciate her as a character. Their relationship was really natural though, and progressed at a realistic rate instead of the extremely fast rate shown in many other stories. Overall I have to say that Leslie and Jesse had a strong bond and their relationship did not really deviate much from the real world and the relationships of
